Yes, for both school-sponsored activities such as dances and socials, as well as athletic events, there are requirements for attendance at least part of the day --at least 4 hours for dances, socials, or other school activities. 1. How do I view my child's grades?

You can access current grades, attendance and lunch balance via the internet. Passwords and Identification Numbers are confidential and stay the same the whole time your student is enrolled in USD379. The powerschool website is:

Choose Password to enter your assigned password.
Click "Go" or press "Enter" to access your students information.

1. How do I view my child's grades?

2. How do I report my child's absence?

To report an absence or late arrival please contact our school 632-2125.

You will need the following information:

1. Childs Name
2. Grade Level
3. Date of the absence (or late arrival)
4. Reason for the absence (or late arrival)
5. Name of the person who is calling to report the absence (or late arrival).
6. Caller's relationship to the child (mother, father, guardian, etc.)

3. How do I report my child's change of address?

Please contact our school, 632-2125. You will need the following information:

*Child's name
*Your name and relationship to student
* Child's Grade Level
* Old Address
* New Address

4. How do I give my child medication at school?

The school is able to give doctor prescribed medication to your child with signed paperwork from your doctor and you, the parent or guardian. Other medications like aspirin or cold medicine may be administered by the parent or guardian. They should report to the school office and their child will be called to meet them there. 5. Can I visit my child at school?

If there are questions concerning student progress, the teacher welcomes the opportunity to talk over achievement as well as difficulties with you. We do ask your cooperation in visiting our school. Visitation Policy

6. What happens when school is delayed 2 hours?

When USD 379 classes are on a two hour delay, Garfield students can begin entering the building at 10am with classes starting at 10:30. There will be no breakfast on mornings of two hour delay.

We will begin with our normal 10:30 class and if the schedule allows the first morning session of class will occur at the end of the day. Specials (Art, Music, PE, Library) will not take place on a two hour delay schedule. However, Band at the end of the day will be held as scheduled.

7. What do I need to enroll my child when we are new to USD379?

Schools are able to request student records from the previous school you attended. Each school will have the forms needed to complete your enrollment. More...

Garfield Elementary Library

1. What happens if I loose or ruin a library book?

Contact our Library for the cost of the book. After paying for the book, if it was lost and you have found it, we will refund your money to you promptly. The book has to be in the condition it had been when it was checked in. We prefer to have the book back so even if you return a book a year later we will happily refund your replacement payment.

We have two ways for you to apply for the employment opportunity you are interested in. The pdf application is for those who prefer to handwrite and send the completed application in the mail or bring it in person to the Stuart Administrative Center. 4. Can a student bring their own computer?

At USD379 the mobile carts and labs are in constant use. Due to the increase of access to the internet, many schools are utilizing 1:1 Learning in classrooms. Students who take additional classes may want to bring their own computer from home. What is the procedure for this?

First, the Director of Technology must be contacted to discuss the need for this student to have their own computer at school. Their computer must be checked by the Technology Department to make sure students have:
• an up-to-date antivirus program with current definitions installed on their computer.
• their operating system patched with the latest critical updates.
• their machine clean of spyware, viruses, trojans, worms, and malware.
Students are not allowed to bring their computer and connect to the school network if they do not have any of the three items listed above on their computer. This is very important because a computer with a virus on the school network can cause everyone else on the network security issues and possibly cause the network to be down.

While our network is filtered and activity monitored there is always the chance for inappropriate content to be accessed. Social networking can be useful, there are many educational networks, however social networking can be a distraction. Many of these sites are blocked. The Technology Department is aware that blocked networks e.g. Facebook, can still be accessed through proxy sites or a change to the url. For every one that is blocked, more show up to give access to these. Keeping up with these changes is time exhaustive. In conjunction with the filter, teacher’s need to monitor what sites their students are on while in their classroom whether they are using a USD379 computer or their own.

Review the employee acceptable use policy(AUP), Hardware(routers, computers, printers), and/or Software(programs downloaded or CD) installation online. Students also sign an acceptable use policy at enrollment into our district. More...

5. Can a student take a school computer home?

School computers must remain at school. A district policy would need to be in place to check out a school computer for students to use at home. A 1:1 environment is a goal of our district, but is not implemented at this time.

Parents as Teachers

1. What is Parents as Teachers?

Parents as Teachers is an early childhood parent education and family support program for expectant parents and parents of children ages birth to three.

2. Who is eligible for Parents as Teachers?

Anyone who resides in one of the participating school districts and has a child under the age of three.

3. What does the program cost families?

Parents as Teachers is a FREE and voluntary program. Our program is funded through the local school districts named above and by the Kansas Department of Education.

4. What are the program components?

Personal visits by a certified Parent Educator, play groups, parent meetings, in-home developmental screenings, access to local resource lending libraries, and a newsletter.

5. How often and where do PAT visits take place?

Our program offers personal home visits once a month. These visits are usually done in the home and last approximately one hour. Visits are scheduled at time that is convenient for the family.

6. What is a personal home visit?

The Parent Educator goes prepared to cover a specific developmental and/or parenting issue that relates to the age and development of the child. During each visit the Parent Educator shares handouts and engages the parent and child in activities. Time is also provided for parents to ask questions or inquire about related services.

7. How do I enroll in Parents as Teachers?

Using Your Mac

1. Can I add Software/Hardware to my computer or the school network?

It is always best to email or call the Tech Department if you have any questions. Adding software to your computer without making sure it is compatible with your system could cause your computer not to function correctly. Adding computers or other devices to our school network can cause network failures or viruses that will affect the whole district. 2. How do I access my email online?

You can always access your email online like any other email service e.g. yahoo.com, as long as you haven't opened Entourage on your computer because that is a software program that pulls the email from the server to your computer just like Outlook Express, or Mail. You can set your email software to leave a copy on the server but be sure to set it to delete from the server after so many days or be sure to delete your email when logged into your mail online or you will clutter up your inbox. You can access your email from anywhere online with the address mail.usd379.org. Log in using your username and password.

3. How do I force an application to Quit?

You may need to Force Quit a Program. Command-Option-Esc (similar to the WINDOWS Ctrl-Alt-Del)

4. I don't have a wireless connection, what do I do?

Click on the Airport icon and see what networks are available. When you see the network name you want to connect to, in this case it is USD379CC for our district, choose that network. Enter the password for that network(available from the Tech Team or the secretary in your building). First...

5. What do I do if my computer froze?

Use command+control+start or command+control+eject to force your computer to restart. To shut down hold down command+option+control+eject or hold down the start key for approx. 5 sec.
