What is a concussion?

A concussion is a brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. Ranging from mild to severe, a concussion can disrupt the way the brain normally works. Someone affected by a concussion may exhibit the following symptoms:

  • Headaches

  • Nausea

  • Dizziness

  • Balance problems

  • Blurry vision

  • Sensitivity to noise or light

  • Feeling sluggish

  • Change in sleep patterns

  • Slow reaction time or forgetful

  • Confusion

What is Second Impact Syndrome?

Second Impact Syndrome, is when you experience two concussions within a short amount of time. This could be a life changing experience. Second impact injury results when the athlete is not removed and treated after the first concussion. Neither impact has to be severe for second impact syndrome to occur. Second impact injury symptoms usually present immediately & progress rapidly. Unfortunately this can result in irreversible brain damage or even death.
