Press Release from TeamMates:
TeamMates of Clay County has quickly become a strong example of chapter growth, community partnership, and intentional leadership. Established in 2023, this relatively new chapter has continued to build momentum each year while staying focused on the mission of connecting students with caring adult mentors.
In just three years, Clay County has grown from 57 matches in its first year to 73 matches in year two, reaching 84 matches this year. This outstanding 47% match growth rate reflects a successful recruitment strategy, strong school and community support, and a shared belief in the difference mentoring can make for students.
A committed board and engaged community have helped create a strong foundation for the chapter’s success. Jessica Borgerding, TeamMates Board President, serves as an exceptional liaison between the school and the community and has also shared her expertise as a presenter at the TeamMates Annual Conference. This level of leadership reflects the board’s deep commitment to the growth, mission, and core values of TeamMates.
Program Coordinator Lisa Last has also been instrumental in the chapter’s development by implementing an effective Building Coordinator model. By designating the school counselor in each district building as the Building Coordinator, she has created a seamless communication network across all Clay County elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. This thoughtful structure has strengthened chapter operations and positioned Clay County for continued success.
Well done, Clay County! Your growth, leadership, and commitment to mentoring are making a meaningful difference for students and setting a strong example for TeamMates chapters across Kansas.
