We are so pleased to share with you the news that our 2021 Konza Prairie Teacher of the Year is Mr. Greg Kalivoda! Mr. Kalivoda is a dedicated and caring professional, one who understands the importance of experiential learning. He began bringing his science classes out to Konza in 2013, having them participate in guided hikes and driving tours. In 2017 Mr. Kalivoda participated in the Konza Summer Teachers' Workshop, a week-long immersion into the science of our station and the ecology of the tallgrass prairie. Because he participated in that Workshop, he became qualified to bring his students to participate in our hands-on science activities. These activities are specific to our site and are based on the kind of research done by University scientists. His students regularly take part in the Stream Chemistry and Stream Macroinvertebrate activities. Since 2013 Mr. Kalivoda has brought over 600 students to Konza Prairie! In a year where many teachers are experiencing burnout or changing fields, Mr. Kalivoda remains committed to the science education of his students. We applaud him! Please share the news that Mr. Greg Kalivoda is the 2021 Konza Prairie Teacher of the Year! Best, Jill Haukos
