Each quarter we create a video for staff, parents, and community members who have signed up to be a USD 379 Academic Ambassador. These videos highlight different academic curriculums used in the district and how they impact our kids. (go to usd379.org/academics to sign up) We decided to share the latest video with the general public. It dives into the district’s 5-year plan to improve reading scores, which is taking place across all grade levels. We wanted to showcase the hard work and dedication ALL staff have put into making sure our students have the best ELA education in the state of Kansas! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT5V0KUKzP8

Besides reading intervention, Mrs. Galindo also teaches keyboarding and cursive writing for 4th and 5th grade. Today her 5th graders were choosing a motivational quote and writing a reflection paper while using cursive writing. Their goal is to get good enough at cursive to write thank you notes to everyone who helped support the P.E.P. scramble dinner.

Mrs. Craig isn't just teaching physical education standards with her students. She is also teaching them how to be good human beings! Each day she gives out "Whoa" awards to students who are leading by example in her class. This includes good character, sportsmanship, and teachability. She adds these names to a chart and then draws three names for prizes.

This leader was nominated for a Pic with the Principal because he saw a friend in need at recess. They were upset and this leader sat down with them and shared what he does when he is feeling upset to calm himself down. Then he walked them over to the game they wanted to play, and helped them navigate starting the next game. We are so proud of his kind heart!
