Lincoln November Board Report
It was Ellis Island week for third graders at Lincoln! Students learned all about the immigration process in early America, and then it was time for them to be the immigrants! They created their own profile and passport and then went through an Ellis Island simulation. Some were quarantined, some were deported, and some made it through!

All elementary grade levels in USD 379 use Into Reading curriculum. Today, Mrs. Payne's second grade classroom was talking about conflict within the characters of the story. This was part of the "Essential Question", which is asked at the beginning of each unit. There was lots of thoughtful discussion going on in the classroom!

Every student at Lincoln goes to a reading intervention group. These can be large or small, and each group has a different focus depending on student needs. Today in Mrs Hays' group, they were working on identifying and reading informational text. She was using the "I do, we do, you do" reading method to make sure everyone was comprehending the message of the text. It's always fun to see first graders go from reading words to whole books at the end of the year!

CCCHS Teacher's Aide Spotlight: Reese is an aide in Mrs. Lange's first grade classroom. "She has made so many connections with my students in and outside of the classroom," Lange says.  "She encourages them and helps them read daily. She also enjoys playing with them at recess. Reese goes above and beyond as a TA! She has the biggest heart, and every child can see how much she cares. We love our time with her as she's a huge support to us all!"

Mrs. Shannon’s Pumpkinology Unit was in full force last week with her kindergarteners. These Pumpkinologists explored pumpkins inside and out and learned a whole bunch of pumpkin facts. Hands-on learning is the BEST and most memorable! Our grand finale was to measure, mix, make, and DEVOUR pumpkin pancakes.

Mrs. Carr's first graders have been learning all things related to pumpkins this past week! One activity involved emptying pumpkins of the pulp and seeds and then counting the seeds by 10's. They used 3 pumpkins, all the same size, but one had 71 seeds, another 382, and another 462! They also made a trip to the Pfizenmaier Pumpkin farm. They explored the pumpkin patch and learned about many different kinds of pumpkins and gourds.

The kindergarteners are learning all about how to make and keep friends during National Bullying Prevention month with Ms. Coughlin. They read the book "How to Lose All Your Friends" (it always gets a giggle) and then made posters about how to be a friend. Students displayed their work around the school! Kindergarteners are leaders at LES!
