We want to personally invite 8th grade students and parents to attend our High School Information Night, which will be held at CCCHS on Thursday, February 27th at 6 p.m. in the CCCHS Auditorium. We will be discussing all information related to transitioning to CCCHS next fall.

Throughout the school year, different college reps will stop in to CCCHS to meet with prospective students. Kansas State took it a step further today by meeting with students who have already been accepted. They talked about next steps and answered any questions the seniors had.

It is assessment day in Mr. Schooley's Algebra 1 class! Students were being tested on Systems of Equations using substitution and elimination. Although Mr. Schooley was SURE that students spent their entire day off studying for the test, he decided to give them some extra study time to start the class before taking the test.

Last night, CCCHS Assistant Principal/Activities Director Greg Ferguson was surprised to learn that he was the 2025 recipient of the Orange & Black Pack "Spirit Award". This award is given annually to someone who goes above and beyond to support CCCHS students and their activities. Very much deserved!

USD 379 will be closed on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025. No school or activities.

Mr. Nordhus brought back an old friend to talk to his Personal Finance class. He student taught under Logan Miner, who is now the CFO in training at Union State Bank. Logan talked to the class about his job and how to be responsible with money both now and in the future. It's another great example of community members taking an active role in our school and district!

The CCCHS FFA would like to extend a special invitation to attend their SAE Showcase. FFA members have worked to prepare short presentations on their Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE)/Work Based Learning (WBL) projects and the impacts they will have on their future career aspirations. They will have a come-and-go event in the Ag Shop on Monday, February 24th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Please see the attached invitation for more details. Please RSVP so we can have enough food available by Wednesday, February 19th.

The students in Mrs. Affolter's Earth Science class have been learning about Earth's mineral resources and their value. Last week the students participated in a task where they used their collective knowledge from the unit to determine where to find a large mineral deposit. They also learned how to read a topographic map, they were introduced to start-up capital, and they experienced Net Gain vs. Net Loss in business ventures!

Mrs. Hughes' Spanish II students are reading a book on Felipe Alou, the first baseball player from the Dominican Republic to play regularly in the major leagues. Students first went over the vocabulary in the all Spanish book and then answered comprehension questions as they went through the chapters.

The CCCHS Tiger Chorale is hard at work preparing for their Winter Vocal Concert. The free concert will take place Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 pm at the CCCHS auditorium.

Last week, the students in Mrs. Payne's 2nd grade class wrapped up their unit on floods, erosion, and mudslides with a guest model presented by Mrs. Affolter's CCCHS Teaching as a Career class. They worked together to collect data on different methods, mimicking both natural and man-made erosion prevention, learning multiple methods are best! Everyone had fun with the "Dirt and Worms" dessert celebration on the last day!

This morning, both CCCHS and WHS students attended the 2025 Kansas Healthcare Virtual Career Day. More than 4,000 students from 200 schools across Kansas attended the online event. Students could choose which area of health care they were interested in, and then they connected virtually with a professional in that area. Our very own Clay County Medical Center Behavioral Health professionals were even one of the presenters! It was a great opportunity to help our students get more information in deciding their future.

Please consider coming to El Puerto's tonight for some chips, salsa, and dialogue!

The students in Teaching as a Career have been learning about the classroom environment, and how bulletin boards are a great way to share exciting new content, display student work, or build classroom culture. Mrs. Lange offered us a great opportunity to practice this, and allowed us to create a bulletin board meant to generate excitement with their Kansas Day celebration today! Happy 164th Birthday, Kansas!
